This is just so other are aware.
the problem was that our server system adminstrator had changed the root name of the directory moodle was installed into but had forgotten to update the cron.php link and if you use it the ladap sync users.
Hence why push notifications didn't work!!
This is just information for you all as such a simple oversight can create so much of a headache!!
