OAuth2 Authentication?

by Les Bell.

I've just started testing the app as part of a planned upgrade to 2.9 and integration with Google Apps. My test site has the auth_googleoath2 plugin installed, configured and working and I want to rely increasingly on this in order to reduce password-related problems (by switching to two-step authentication, use of Yubikeys, etc.).

Are there any plans to support OAuth2 authentication in the app? It's frustrating to register with the site using Google (or Facebook, or . . .) only to discover that you need a username and password to use the app - so now you've got to re-register, creating a second account. This is particularly evident with the Android version, since Android devices are almost always associated with a Google account - and usernames and passwords are fiddly to type on a small device.
